Wealth Gap: I feel appreciated for what I have now

Wealth Gap
I appreciate the things which I have now.

Nowadays, this society runs under a high frequency; if you are failed in the first step, you will hardly catch up, and then you might fail again and again. This issue caused many social matters, and Wealth Gap might be the one of those. Wealth Gap refers to the gap between rich and poor, income inequality, or wealth disparity. It is really a matter we seriously need to think about. Why there is a huge difference in wealth between rich and poor, especially in China?

The situation in China is especially terrible; because of its rapid economic progress and more competitive social system, the rich people who have already had powerful influences to China’s economy is becoming more and more wealthy due to their previous wealth; and the poor people only remain few chances to become rich or find a well-paid job. Everyone knows that China has a very high density of population; it makes the people from the middle class and the lower class harder to find an honorable job with a high salary. Thus the wealth gap emerges in society. Another reason that causes Wealth Gap is the relationship between the powerful companies and the government. Those powerful companies have really dramatic influences for China’s economy, so the government provides few “privileges” for supporting them so that the national economy will develop too. Then the rich people become richer.

China has a really huge change in recent year; the cities and the coastal area have been transformed into new looks, but how about the countryside and the poor people? In some ways, they stay the same as it always was. An interview from BBC News: a farmer who is from Guizhou Province says: “The agriculture tax is high. Government officials say they are going to reduce the rural taxes, but they have not and we do not know when they will. If they did reduce our taxes that would really change our lives. We are so poor because there is no development here. The government does give aid but for some reason there is hardly any allocated to this area. I have no way to buy fertilizer. We need economic help.” This statement is really impressive; although some countryside areas do have changes, but to compare with cities, it seems like nothing.

Some poor people are just complaining about the unfair treatment, but some extreme people choose another way to make the government pay attention to them; a terrorism attack. On July 20, 2013, my mum and I drove my brother to the airport terminal three; they were going to American for playing tennis. After we said goodbye to my brothers and on the way we baked to home, we heard of the news about the terrorism attack in the terminal three from the radio. My mum was scared; she said if my brothers’ flight were next flight, they would be very dangerous. Basically, the terrorist was not trying to hurt people; he was trying to get attention from the government. He was a man in a wheelchair, and held a homemade bomb in the main arrivals hall at Beijing International Airport (Airport terminal three). Before the explosion, he told the surrounding people to get away from him, because he did not want to hurt anybody. Then he triggered the homemade bomb, and only he was injured. After the attack, the newspaper claimed the man was from Shandong Province, and he was a petitioner who had individual social grievances. He had traveled for his issue more than ten times, but every time he came back to home without a solution. People guess that his individual grievances might come from his job, and salary; he might not get what he supposes to get. Thus he planed that terrorism attack.

In my perspective, wealth gap is a current social puzzle, and ordinary people can not help with this issue at all. Hope the government can find a compromise for this issue as soon as possible; be beneficial for both sides.
