Personal
Statement
You cannot improve your past, but you can improve your future. Once time
is wasted, life is wasted. We have to believe in ourselves
because that's the secret of success.
When I look at a picture of myself,
which is taken last year. I notice that I have grown and changed. But there is
still one thing that have not change and I think it will never change. That
thing is a word in my mind---Speed.
Life is short, there’s no time for you to
waste. 7368 miles, this is the distance
between my hometown and here. With my ambition I came here alone, left my
family and friends. Started with another junior year, I really don’t have time
to waste. So, what I need is speed. Speed is efficiency, it is one of the most
important things that we all need.
Speed
can help me to solve the problem fast. Especially in the urgent situation. My
greatest hobby since primary school is making car model and ship model. Now
I’ve participated in car model and ship model competitions for many times. No
surprisingly, I got the first prize each time. However, the most impressing and
challenging experience was in 2012. As the team leader of our school, I led
members to take part in the Rocket Launcher Project Competition of the Shanghai
Youth Invention Design Creative Ability Open Competition. In the preparation
stage, I assigned tasks according to members’ specialties, gave guidance to
them in the design and working process and corrected deviation timely.
Unexpectedly, a great breakdown happened in the test phase. As the rocket
bracket was unable to afford the weight of the launcher, the rocket can’t reach
the emission angle. Thus, it was impossible to reach the set target. Only half
an hour left before the competition. I noticed the nervous eyes of my members
and sensed the great responsibility as the team leader. I tried hard to calm
down and began to look over every step of the working process. Finally, I found
the problem and settled it down in the limited time by designing and making a
new bracket. After the competition, I concluded and began to understand that I
can’t pay attention only to the design of the core part of engine. Any tiny
negligence would have influence on the results of the project. Though we only
got Bronze Award, I would never forget this experience.
Speed is my friend and I hope we can be friend forever.
