The Sochi Olympics are about to start, and these winter games could mark the most corrupt Olympics to date. The Winter Olympics should have never been in Sochi to begin with. "Conservative estimates put the cost of the Sochi Games at $51 billion. This is more than 400 percent higher than originally planned." This proves that a select few are making massive profits from these games, while the city of Sochi,~ and the Russian people are fitting the bill. Construction estimates reported by various companies building Olympic facilities are truly false claims. A railroad project that has connected the seaside facilities to the mountain facilities was reported to cost 8.7 million! Russian Esquire estimates that the tracks could “have been paved entirely with a centimeter-thick coating of beluga caviar" for that price. Extremists have warned officials of planned attacks, which should have been expected due to the population of known terrorist groups in the area. During the games there will be 30000 soldiers on the ground to prevent any terrorist attacks. The Olympic committee have been accused of accepting bribes in the past, and there should be no reason why they should not be questioned now. Hosting the Winter Olympics in Sochi is truly an idiotic decision, and I doubt Olympic officials were totally ignorant to the corruption and danger of the area. This leads me to believe that the winning Sochi bid was the result of large bribes from Russian investors, and construction companies.

In an even more bizarre decision, Fifa has awarded Qatar the World Cup in 2022. Qatar is one of the hottest places on earth, and the World Cup is held during the summer. The summer temperatures create impossible playing conditions, so the World Cup will have to be moved from June-July to "15 November to 15 January". Unfortunately, players are still involved in club football during this time, and hosting the World Cup in the middle of the season could mean injuries to players in the middle of the season. To accommodate a World Cup in this time period, three seasons of club football will have to be disrupted. This is likely to anger many clubs around the world that will see the calender changes as a problem for their team. The World Cup is meant to be held during the summer when players are not performing their actual jobs. The World Cup should never interfere with club football, in which players and clubs make their money. The truth is, Fifa could care less about club's losing profits. They only care about making a ton of money, which is why they have decided to put the World Cup in Qatar. The elite in Qatar are very wealthy and could easily persuade Fifa officials that they could accommodate the World Cup.
