The Movie Review of The Truman Show
The Truman Show is a movie that is directed by Peter Weir and performed by Jim Carrey, the main character. This movie is a huge success which includes the nominations from the 71st Academy Awards, 56th Golden Globe Awards, 52nd British Academy Film Awards and The Saturn Awards, and it also helped Jim Carrey get the Best Male Actor Award in the Golden Globe Award.(Wikipedia).
One the one hand, The success of this movie is because of the perfect performance that Jim Carrey gives and the humor he creates. Jim Carrey, one of the best comedy actors in 20th and 21st century, offers us with a wonderful visual feast. His hilarious and over exaggerated smile is the symbol of this movie that attracts unaccountable numbers of real audiences. The way he acts can not be copied by anyone else, and it is just unique and natural. His life is his stage. On the other hand, however, it is not just a successful movie that earn fame and money, it is a movie that teaches people and warns people with valuable information--the manipulation of social media and the current definition of freedom.
The title of this movie itself is a huge “spoiler alert” which tells you that it is about a “true man” show. In The Truman show, because the audiences in the movie get tired of fake expression and hypocritical performance, a huge project of raising a baby named Truman Burbank is without informing him that everything he lived with is faked and having more than 500 camera record his every second in life. Since he thinks that he is actually living, his “performance” is extremely nature and attract millions of audiences in the movie
This movie also talks about what is the meaning of a individual to himself. In The Truman Show, Truman means everything to everyone. He is the source of earning money for those actors, the gold star for the director and the favorite TV show player for audience. However, when i watched this movie with others, when Truman shouts “ and who am i” made them tear up. Yes, who are we? Most people do things that satisfy others, such as, shopping with their friends or dinning with their boss-- things they never consider to do for themselves. It might be mandatory, or under certain circumstances; nevertheless, eventually, we are not enjoying our lives with things that we are crazy about.
